Macbeth_discuss The Character The Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare is a classic piece of Literature that has been continuously analyzed throughout the centuries. The main character of the play, Macbeth, has conflicting emotions that result in him ?destroying his self respect, ruining his pride, degrading his honor, and spoiling his integrity? (Cant). In an effort to gain power, he pushes aside his honor, but his desire for immorality is what caused his downfall in the end. The play depicts the minor characters as having their own distinct characteristics, however Macbeth tends to modify himself many times throughout the play. Macbeth is first portrayed as a noble, brave soldier who thrives on the admiration and respect from people around him (Cant). Later, he becomes indecisive and feebleminded as Lady Macbeth persuades him into killing King Duncan in an effort to gain power. He shows his weak, agile characteristics by allowing his success to conquer him (Hazlitt 171). By the end of the play, Macbeth's o bjective is to resume in power and ensure a secure future for himself. The actions he takes to obtain this goal causes his level of morality to decline and he loses the respect he previously earned throughout his meritorious life (Cant). Macbeth's characteristics tend to change each time his title changes. During the first act of the play, Macbeth is honored as a noble and brave soldier. King Duncan rewards him for being a soldier who is loyal, courageous, and willing to ?fight for his life with a wild and brute-like force? (Hazlitt 174). Not only is Macbeth recognized by his admirers for his physical strength, but also he is commended for his ?keen sense on the battlefield? (Bornstein). He has been known for having a pure, natural manner to him (Cant). Because of this nature, Lady Macbeth is afraid he will not kill Duncan without intense persuasion because he is ?too full of the milk of human kindness? (I.v.15). Lady Macbeth effects the way the audience views Macbeth because she is utterly relentless. Macbeth's characteristics change because of her ruthless ambition that drives him to commit malicious sins (Hazlitt 171). She encourages Macbeth to ?look like th' innocent flower / But be the serpent under't? (I.vii.63). Lady Macbeth is very persistent in reaching a higher social guise, leading Macbeth to become violent in order to acquire her mission (Hazlitt 171-175). Lady Macbeth has successfully subdued Macbeth when he murders Duncan although he originally was against it. After killing Duncan, Macbeth shows remorse for the treason he has committed which he once fought against. As he becomes more anxious and disturbed, the joy and love he once received diminishes, but hope causes him to continue the striving for domination. Macbeth is no longer happy with who he is or what he has done despite the fact he gets all that which he set out to gain. Macbeth seems to be comforted by reminiscing his crimes. He attempts to deny their consequences and he relieves his regret for his past actions by planning more devious schemes in order to ensure his position. ?He stands in doubt between the world of reality and the world of fancy? (Hazlitt 176). ?I have supped full with horrors / Direness, familiar to my slaughterous thoughts / Cannot once start me? (V.v.13). Macbeth begins to see hallucinations that cause him to be severely agitated. ?He becomes more callous as he plunges deeper in guilt? (Hazlitt 171-176). By the end of the play, Macbeth makes a drastic transformation from the noble, brave soldier to the keen, nefarious king. Ambition corrupts Macbeth. Greed has caused him to be powerful and he takes advantage of his power by assassinating innocent people who may have the possibility of being connected to his predicted downfall. ?Once his hands are dyed in blood, he hardly cares to withdraw them?until slaughter becomes the habit of his reign? (Hazlitt 174). He plans to continue murdering people in order to serve his purpose. Evil has overcome Macbeth at this point and nothing can startle him. Fear does not phase him because his conscience is jaded and this actualization, in a way, comforts him (Cant). Throughout the play, the three witches who ?planted the seed?

How did it become the American dream? Why do we feel so compelled to pursue it? The reason is because we, the American public, have been convinced through advertising to acquire it. It is a very powerful way of persuasion. Advertising affects us so powerfully that it sometimes sets our views of society for us. We constantly absorb images of families, houses, and cars through commercials and magazine ads. It persuades us so strongly to the point that it can alter our social consciousness. Alter it to the point that we feel that the American dream is no longer a luxury, it has become a necessity. Today there is almost no way to escape advertisements. The radio, television, and magazine ads make sure of that. The more we view these advertisements, the more we are persuaded toward the American dream. With a television in almost every household and magazines an arm=s length away, advertisers basically have us on our knees. We must digest advertisers= views so frequently that you would think it was necessary to sustain life. Advertising=s main goal is to persuade. They want us to see the American way through their eyes. They tell us what to eat, drink, wear, drive, and think. Advertisers start this form of brainwashing on us at a very early age. They lay the groundwork of ideals early on because it is easy to persuade a child. Now, with the two income family, children are left to interpret not only advertisements but television programming as well without supervision. Children are forced to make their own evaluations and most of the time they go along with the views of what they see. How many times do children want something because they saw it on television? With the unending viewing of shows and advertisements who could blame them. By age twenty, Americans have viewed an estimated half a million commercials. Now that is a major amount of influencing on a young person. This is exactly what advertisers hope to accomplish with young people. They want them to associate advertisements to purchasing. ! It starts out with toys and leads to the American dream. One day they want a matchbox car and a few years later they want a real Porsche. Do not all boys want a fancy car? Do not most girls dream of living in a big house? Is this a coincidence or a carefully thought out scheme by advertisers? Now, how is it exactly that advertisers get us to want the American dream. They do this by channeling into one of our most basic instincts, emotions. Along with emotions, advertisers want to make you feel three other things: connection, imagination, and desire. A connection between the product and a feeling is important. They also want you to imagine yourself in the experience with the merchandise. A strong desire for the product is another effect that the advertiser=s want you to feel. Take for instance any food commercial. They connect the food to a feeling which is hunger. They want you to imagine yourself eating the product. This produces a strong desire for the food. Advertisers hope that this will produce a sale. The stronger the feeling for these topics, the more likely you are to trust and believe that you need them. These feelings are supposed to affect you at a subconscious level. They are not exactly leveling with you. But would you buy something from someone if you! knew they were deceiving you. Why is it that most of us want a family? Well, for the past thirty years we have seen countless families in commercials. Advertisers usually show these families as fun-loving and happy. The message they send out is that a family is healthy. That having a family equals happiness. All of which spell the American dream. If you do not have a family, you are not a complete person and that is not American. Some cultures are very strict and sensitive about their religion and their way of life. For example, Muslims follow their religion strictly and their religion prohibits consumption of pork in their food. Their sentiments should be respected and they should not be offered pork in their meals. However, accepting and following other culture is a threat to our own culture as well. we tend to lose our own traditions and beliefs in an attempt to follow and embrace other cultures. Future generation will not learn their real tradition and culture and in this process, there is a chance that we will lost our own values.

Nature and nurture: Forming attitudes and behaviors How far is that human feelings and behaviors are inborn and how far are they all learned? This has been a very controversial issue over century and it is now come across as the nature versus nurture debate. By birth the same, by custom different is a quotation by Confucius which means that all human being are naturally alike, it is the habits that make each of every human being far apart and different from each other. Evolutional perspective which emphasizes on human kinship and cultural perspective which focuses on human diversity are the two main ideas that dominating the thinking of human similarities and differences in societies nowadays. Some scientists held the opinion that people behave as they do because of their genetic makeup. This is what we known as the nature of human behavior or attitude. While on the other hand, some scientist suppose that people think and act according to the way they are being taught and this is then known as the nurture of human behavior. A lot of r esearch have been done and proved that both sides are partly right. Nature bequeaths us with innate traits and talent and nurture uses the environment factors to mold and shape these genetic tendencies. In my opinion, I think that human behaviors are largely shaped by the environment, in other word nurture play a bigger part in designing our personality and behavior. Evolutional psychology acknowledges that nature and nurture interact to form our behavior and personality. Our biological traits are not fixed blueprints, their expression rely on the environment factors. One of the classical examples is the experiment done by an American psychologist John Watson with a young orphan name Albert. The result shows that phobia could be explained by classical conditioning, an environmental learning. The little Albert started crying every time he see a furry object because he has learned that the furry object will always accompanying by a loud Bang sound that going to scare him. Other psychologist like B.F. Skinner, the father of behavioral science has also done experiments which produced dancing pigeons and proved that human behavior could be conditioned in similar way to the animal. Besides, a study published in New Scientist propose that sense of humor is not genetically inborn but a learned trait that induce by people and cultural. Obviously, environm ent definitely plays a role in shaping humans behavior and traits. If this is not the case, the identical twins should be exactly the same theoretically even they have been brought up in different place. But studies reveal that they are never exactly the same even though they are very much alike in most aspects. Cultural diversity is one of the dominant factors that cause differences among people. There are millions of different culture exist across the world, cultural diversity even exist within nation. Malaysia is a very good example for cultural diversity within nation, despite the different of the physical look among Chinese, Indian and Malay, we are all living under the same environment and taking the same food and yet what make us so distinct from each other? Each of us practices different culture and tradition base on our race and religion, so base on different believe that we held, our behavior and thinking will never be the same even though we are all basically living under the same roof. On the other hand, the cultural diversity is even more obvious when people are from different part of the world. The language, customs, culture, and expressive behaviors that vary from one country to another country make people different from each other. And due to the factors above, people from di fferent part of the world could hold different opinion about the same issue. Some societies do not wear shoes in house while other societies practicing it; some societies consider looking into peoples eyes while talking is a show of politeness while some other societies consider such action as disrespectful. In addition to that, vary in parenting style in collectivist culture and individualistic culture provides a very clear example of cultural diversity between different societies. Parenting style is greatly influenced by the cultural context of a particular society because the cultural context is going to have impact on parents moral values, believe, and socialization goals. So, what is consider normal in one culture maybe labeled as abnormal at another culture. Studies have shown that individualism and collectivism societies often hold different attitudes and value when teaching their child. The parenting style in collectivism societies emphasize on obedience, self-discipline and the importance to do well in school. Moreover, the children are expected to live with their parents until they get marry. While on the other side of the token, the parents in the individualism societies treat their children totally in an opposite way. They encourage their children to voice out their opinion and fight back whenever the children think they are correct. The parents in individualism societies, normally the westerners give much more freedom to their children compare to the parents in collectivism societies. Furthermore, the children of the westerners are expected to live with their own when they reach the age of 18 because they are considered as adult and must be able to stand on their own feet. Thus, we can imagine that how huge the different is it when people are being brought up with different culture. Sometime, all the people behave in the same manner under certain situation; this has nothing to do with our biological trait but is due to the social norm. Social norms are also one of the factors that guide human behaviors and attitudes. Norms is the standards for accepted and expected behavior which society prescribe as proper behavior. Most of our behaviors are largely shape by the society and people seldom go against what the society expect us to do as we scared that we will be rejected by the society. For instance, stop when the traffic light turn red, open the door for an old lady, and keep quiet in the library. Try to imagine you speak loudly while everybody is silently studying in the library, what will happen? Definitely everybody will look at you one kind. Furthermore, there are also norms that we share across different culture. No matter what country are we in and what culture are we practicing, we respect our friends privacy and do not divulge things said in confidence. T his is known as universal friendship norms. Other than that, there are also universal status norms where people will talk in a more respectful way when talking to a higher-status people, for example lecturer and talk in a more casual way when the person is same level as you, for example friends. Lastly, the best known universal norms would be the taboo against incest. Sexual activity is prohibited among family member, neither parents with children, nor siblings with each other. Thus, people will govern their behavior regardless their genetic makeup in order to avoid rejection from the public. Undoubtedly, genetic makeup makes a huge different between male and female. Male and female are born to be physically different, female is born to be has 70% more fat, 40% less muscle, 5 inches shorter and 40 pounds lighter than male. But biological traits only make different in sexes not gender. Gender is the characteristics people assign to male and female. Again, it is the society that assign specific gender role for men and women so that the society can function well with each of the gender carry out their assigned role and responsibility properly. Many people think that men are born to be more dominant and unemotional and women are born to be more emotional and soft which I do not think is true. Due to the gender role allocate to male and female, they are being brought up in a different way since they were young. Men are thought to be more independent, protective, and unemotional because since centuries ago men have been the head of the house, they are responsible to feed and pr otect the family; whereas women are thought to be more emotional, soft, and obedience because they are the one who going to give birth to baby, take care and teach of the child. They do not need to be strong because their job is stay and take care of everything in the house. Thus, it is the nurture that causes the two sexes behave in certain way and I think that men will stand out to be more dominant is due to the gender role that has been assign to them. Men are always given priority in the work place as their wages are always higher compared to the women who have same position as them and they are typical of those in higher-status positions. So, it is unassailable that men have higher status than women in the society and hence they are more dominant. On the other hand women are more emotional attached and express empathy more often is because they are being brought up and train in that way. Hence, the emotional trait inside women is not innate but learns through the families and e nvironment. In a nut shell, nature and nurture interact in forming our attitudes and behaviors. But just as I indicate the points above that in fact nurture plays a bigger part than nature in determining human attitude and behaviors. If human behavior can be determine with merely biological traits, there will not have so many unsolved question and doubt about human thinking and behavior, nor the exits of psychology, sociology, anthropology to study the existence, culture, and behavior of human being. The environment and culture play a major role in the nurture part of molding our personality and behavior. If without the existence of cultural diversity, I believe that all of the people around the world will be much likely behave in the same manner as each and every one of us shares the same culture and the biological traits only play a minor role in determining our behavior traits and its major role is to differentiate us in term of our sexes. It is the same that apply to environment differences, as we are being raise up in distinct circumstance; therefore we act and behave differently. Because of the environment is changing over time, behavior and attitude of human are also constantly changing. Each and every one of us is unique due to environment and cultural that we are living in, so this is why that a same situation given but all of us react differently. In addition to that, people often choose and create their own situation base on their personal preference and believe. Thus, studying of human attitude and behavior is an ongoing process that will never end as long as human beings continue to survive in the earth.

The area manager Philip Davies has a clear but hard Job which he gets well rewarded for, Philip Davies has to make major and long term decisions which could be vital to Asda, obviously he has to actually run he business day in day out and he has to attend regularly board of directors meetings plus he has to do basic and boring paperwork for most of each day. Philip Davies needed good qualifications to become the Area manager of Asda and his qualifications are: * A masters degree in Business * A degree in management * 3 A-levels * 7 A*-C grades at G.C.S.E Without these sort of qualifications Philip Davies could never have become the Area manager of Asda. Store manager The store manager Gary Hall has a slightly similar job to the Area manager except he does not communicate to the board of directors and the store manager has to work more with the employees inside of the store and he has to check that everything is going well throughout the store. The store manager is responsible for the performance measures in his store: sales, stock loss, labour cost, customer service and Licence to Trade (Health & Safety and Food Quality). The Store Manager is also responsible for managing and developing their team of Duty Managers. Gary Hall also needs good qualifications to be the store manager and they are: * Business Degree * Management degree * 3 A-levels * 6 A*-C grades at G.C.S.E These qualifications are a lot like the Area managers (Philip Davies) qualifications, probably because the jobs are similar. Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School Dist. 393 U. S. 503, 89 S. Ct. 733, 21 L. Ed. 2d. 731 (1969). NATURE OF CASE: Petitioners, three public school pupils, in Des Moines, Iowa were suspended from school for violating a school board (respondents) policy of banning the wearing of armbands. The armbands represented the protest of Government policy in Vietnam. The District Court dismissed the complaint. On appeal, the Eight Circuit Court was equally divided, therefore affirmed the decision of the District Court.Writ of certiorari was granted and reversed and remanded the decision of the Eight Circuit Court. CONSISE RULE OF LAW: Student speech may be regulated when such speech would materially and substantially interfere with the discipline and operation of a school. FACTS: The petitioners decided to wear black armbands to protest the Government policy in Vietnam. The petitioner’s decision to wear black armbands violated a school board policy, which lead to the petitio ner’s suspension from school.The petitioners did not return to school until after the anti-war protest period ended. ISSUE: 1) Does prohibiting public school students against wearing armbands, as a form of symbolic speech, violate the First Amendment of Freedom of Speech? HOLDING AND RATIONALE: 1) Yes, the U. S. Supreme Court found the student’s conduct of symbolic speech is within the protection of the First Amendment of Freedom of Speech. The U.S Supreme court found by wearing armbands the petitioners did not cause any interruption in the classroom and did not impose on the rights of others. The petitioners wore the armbands to express their views on the anti-war protest in Vietnam. The petitioners protested in a quiet and passive manner. The court found the respondents failed to prove that the wearing of armbands substantially interfered with appropriate school discipline. Therefore, the court reversed and remanded the decision of the Eight Circuit Court of Appeals.

War is necessary to men, and is more natural to them than peace. In this quote by Anatole France, we realize why we as people want war. It is necessary and is more common then peace. How many countries in the present world have not used war, terror, or means other then peace to be where they are now? None! The world has come about by means other then peace. The first country to use terror on a big scale would be France during the French Revolution in the late 1700s. The French proved to themselves and the world that you can control and rule by terror and violence. The French revolution was the first, but it wasnt the last! The violence that raced through France was called the reign of terror. The reign of terror is justified because it helped save France, it worked and it helped bring about the present world. During the late 1700s in France, there was trouble. The economy was falling, government wasnt working and the people didnt have equal representation. The people answered by setting up their own legislative branch called the National Assembly in 1789. Over the next 12 years there were 2 governments and a new one was started in 1792. Over those 12 years there was rebellions and a mob was formed to kill any one that didnt believe in the new government. Also France was involved in a war with Austria and Prussia. In 1793 the Jacobins with the San-Culottes seized power and started the National Assembly. The National Assembly came up with a way to end the war and to bring down the rebellions that were taking place inside France. The plan was called the reign of terror. They also imposed economical measures to help France. To help the economy they instituted the law of maximum prices, law of minimum wage and to ration the country. The Man On The Moon essays In the early 1950s, America and the Soviet Union competed in the greatest race of all time. It was the race to space, more specifically the race to the moon. The Space Race became a symbol of a broad political contest between two rival world powers. Both the U.S. and the Soviet Union struggled to reach the moon, and put man on it. Before a watchful world, each side sought to demonstrate its superiority through impressive feats in rocketry and space flight.(Space Race). The Soviet Union put the first satellite into orbit, as well as the first human in space. America had to reply, so we in turn put the first man on the moon, with the Soviet Union following close at our heels when they nearly succeeded in doing the same. Since America was in such a rush to reach the moon, several skeptics, and conspiracy theorists have brought up the idea that this historical event was possibly faked. There is a good deal of evidence that demonstrates no one had actually ever landed on the moon. NASA may not have had the technical capability of going to the Moon just yet, but pressure from the Soviet Union may have forced them to fake it. The first bit of actual evidence brought up is the lack of stars in the pictures taken by the Apollo astronauts from the surface of the Moon (There are none!). Without air, the sky is black, so where are the stars? More evidence also involves pictures. In all the pictures taken by the astronauts, the shadows are NOT black. Objects in shadow can be seen, sometimes clearly, including an American flag symbol on the side of the moon lander that can be read easily. This review considers three different types of studies in a bid to gain the evidence of the potential benefits of using water immersion during the first two stages of labor. A close analysis of the results from each study reveals that water immersion may serve to reduce the pain experienced during labor and hence eliminate the need for spinal analgesia that is normally given to women in labor. Even when there is a need for analgesia, the studies reveal that it is usually limited when using water immersion. There is a need for advanced research in this sector because the available evidence does not give conclusive findings on the rate of infection during water immersion.
